George Storry

Northwest Coast Native Haida Artist - George StorryGeorge with Eagle Plaque

George Earl Storry IV was born on July 4th, 1954, in Old Massett, B.C. (on the Queen Charlotte Islands now known as Haida Gwaii).

His mother, Sylvia, was the first born daughter of Godfrey and Victoria Kelly (nee Edenshaw). Victoria Edenshaw was the daughter of Henry Edenshaw, the son of Albert Edward Edenshaw, then hereditary Chief Idansuu of the Stastas Eagle Clan in Massett, B.C.

Carving since 1978, George learned his craft from his cousin Fred Yeltatzie, who taught him the basic fundamentals of carving in the traditional Haida style. Since then, George has been mainly self taught, studying the old and new carvings done by masters past and present. He is also a creative jeweler, using precious and semi-precious stones to augment his original works in gold and silver.George with Haida Mask
